Maria Ines Aguirre (MIA) has had numerous one-man shows in commercial and public galleries in Europe and South America. Her work is held in collections in both continents. Born in Northern Argentina, she studied Fine Arts at the University of Tucuman before completing a post-graduate studies in painting with Fabrizio Plessi at the Academia delle Belle Arte di Venezia. Since 1993 she's lived and worked in London.
In the foreword to the catalogue of her 2003 exhibition at the Centro Borges, Buenos Aires, the well known French critic Pierre Restany said "her work is unique because it draws so much from her emotional responses to the reality of family life". In what sadly proved to be one of Restany's final critiques before his death, he added that "man had for far too long looked for inspiration through reason. What we need for the future is the capacity to channel creativity through our emotional intelligence. For MIA emotion is colour and colour is the virtual side of our emotions."
